Guitar Lessons

What you will learn

Basics

  • tuning the guitar, how to hold the guitar, holding the pick, how to strum chords, how to fret chords, and how to not cry because your hands aren’t doing what your brain wants them to do.

Songs/song Based Learning

  • Teaching scales, theory, and other “boring” essentials in the context of songs the student WANTS to learn.

Fretboard Fluency

  • the patterns, interval skips, triads and arpeggios that turn scales into usable melodic tools for soloing. You will develop your musical ears while also building excellent technique and creative solos

alternate tunings

  • an alternative approach to guitar playing that allows guitarists access to chords and note combinations outside the traditional E standard tuning

music history

  • for me, one of the joys of teaching is recommending music to my students

about Me

I fell in love with the guitar at 11 years old. In the 15 years since it has been my friend in times of need, kept me out of trouble, and completely altered the trajectory of my life. It is a never-ending source of inspiration, expression, escape, and joy, and my goal in teaching is to give my students the tools to foster their own love for the instrument that so changed my life.

I am a self-taught guitarist. While I attempted to take lessons at various points in my journey, ultimately I found that almost all traditional guitar curriculum was stale, uninspired, and failed to focus on the goals of the individual students. As a result, I forged my own playing style through trial and error, exploration, and plenty of mistakes.

My method of teaching focuses on fostering a love for the craft. You should never have to force your child to practice, and they shouldn’t have to force themselves. I aim to find what makes each student tick musically and build out an individually tailored curriculum around their interests.

By learning at the intersection of technicality and feel, my students are able to become technically proficient while at the same time retaining their natural musical instincts. The student forges their own path, and I am simply the guide.
